The Summit Schools started through the wish of its principles – James and Karen – to educate orphans from their local community.  Now, years after the growth of their thriving school community, they continue to accept and support orphans from as far away as the slums of Nairobi. The limitation is, of course, funding.

It costs just £500 to provide one year’s education and full domestic support for a child at Summit.  An extra £100 allows a boarder to extend their stay at school during the vacations, in cases where returning to their home environment is considered by the school not to be in the child’s best interests. To support a day student who is still able to live with a relative, the cost is just £300.

Supporting a child’s education makes a massive difference for their life chances, of course.  It also transforms the lives of those around them, turning likely damaging circumstances into positive potential for the child and their society at all levels.  It is a small sum to transform the life of a child and all those with whom that child will have contact in all the circumstances of their lives …

The decision to sponsor a child is not a light one, however.  We emphasis that the commitment os for the educational lifetime of the child – up to eight years in some cases.  We also ensure that the sponsorship is directly attached to the child, not to the schools, so that should their circumstances change, the support can follow them to other schools should that be needed.

For older children, the ability to stay on at school is curtailed by family poverty. This is where the senior school bursaries can help.  Sponsors can also choose to support a child through the two years of their senior school with all the potential for further education and better employment that this will provide.

Once we receive your donation, we will let you know the name, age and brief biography of the child you are sponsoring. The children themselves are not given any details of their sponsorship or sponsor in order to avoid any distinction or discrimination with their peers.  You, as sponsor, will receive pictures and an annual report on your child’s progress, and may or may not choose to contact your child directly when they finish their initial schooling at the age of 16.
